OPERATION christmas child

Above is a picture of the boxes the Slippery Rock
Softball team put together this year

The slippery rock softball team with help from head coach Becky Sciacca and assistance Stacey Rice put together boxes of gifts to be sent to third world countries.
Each player purchased a shoe box, picked an age group and filled the box up with toys and things the kids could use. I participated in this events and my box included socks, a glove and ball, some princess crowns, gloves, pencils and a little stuffed animal.
When christmas comes around these familes do not have the money to barely buy food let alone presents for their children. The boxes don't seem like alot but to them it means the world.
We all met in the locker room and wrapped all the boxes together. They had to be sent out now to make sure they arrive in time for christmas. Anyone is welcome to participate in this gift of giving and it is always appreciated.
The box you send can also be tracked so you know exactly where it went. For more information I'll put the link below it gives you all the information you need and even includes videos oh how to make a box.

Getting the community involved

Women's basketball is taking another step and inviting the community and surrouding communities together this fall. They plan to host some youth clinics for boys and girls between kindergarten and eighth grade. Since they are around the time of halloween and the holidays they will be called "haunted hoops and holiday hoops clinics" The cost is $25 and this includes the clinic, pizza party and autrographs after
This is great that the basketball team is histing these youth clinics, this is a way to get the communitty directly involved with the university. This can help get the support from the people living in slippery rock and also is a great way to raise money for the sports programs here.

Girl's volleyball

Saturday was the first time I attended a volleyball game here at slippery rock. I've been to volleyball games before but this was one defintely intense. The rock took on edinboro at home, and the whole game had people on the edge of their seats.
Edinboro came out strong every set and forced slippery rock to play catch up the entire game. Although the fighting scots came out on top this motivated the rock to step up their game and come back for a win.
The game continued back and forth until the last set where it looked as if edinboro would take the set and tie up the match. but The Fourth set was a battle and the teams combined for 14 ties and 14 lead changes. The gym was so loud as both fans, of the rock and the scots cheered on their teams.
The game went back and forth until slippery rock came out at last and scored three consecutive points to take the game.
I can defintely say I will be watching more volleyball games and everyone should come out and support the athletic programs.

Rock Volleyball Undefeated

I recently just posted about our girl's soccer team dominating. I'm happy to be able to post about yet another Rock athletic program excelling. Rock volleyball defeated shephard and west virginia state to put their record to 9-0. taking their record to 9-0 broke a school record. No team has ever won 9 consecutive matches in a row. After breaking the record the fire kept going they kept their undefeated record going after beating Alderson-Broaddus.
The girl's volleyball also had a PSAC player of the week Kristy Lake who is a freshman this year. The team is on fire and dominating everyone in their path. Congratulations to the girls team and the PSAC player of the week for the accomplishments they have recieved so far.

Women's soccer team ties 2nd ranked team West Chester

Saturday our women's soccer team who is ranked 22nd tied 2nd ranked West chester after a double overtime draw. West Chester seemed to have the game after scoring a goal in the 67th minute but Slippery rock was not backing down. with just 36 seconds remaining they tied the game up. Our girl's team has always been very competitive but to tie the 2nd ranked team in the country is an impressive accomplishment. This shows all of their hard work and dedication during season and even during the off season.
Hopefully our girls keep this fire going and continue their winning season. If you can make sure to get our and support all of our athletic teams.
